See Dr. Bruene in clinic
Get an in-person evaluation and a treatment plan built around how your body actually responds.
02
Use a pain guide
Work through a self-guided plan for low back or neck pain and figure out what your body responds to.
03
Start the 12-week Movement Program
Build better breathing, stabilization, mobility, strength, and movement control.
Why NeuroActive is different
The first question isn’t “What exercise should I do?”
Pain, stiffness, weakness, and limited mobility can look similar on the surface, but they don’t always need the same solution.
The better question is: “What does your body actually respond to?”
01
Assess before you prescribe.
Instead of starting with a generic exercise list, NeuroActive begins by looking for the movements and strategies that actually change the problem.
02
Use the response to guide the next step.
If something makes you move better or feel better, that response matters. If it makes you worse, that matters too.
03
Change the plan when the problem changes.
Getting out of pain is not the same thing as rebuilding movement. NeuroActive is designed to progress from symptom relief toward control, strength, and better performance.
How NeuroActive works
First change the problem. Then build what’s missing.
NeuroActive combines two different ways of thinking about movement. One helps identify the direction or strategy that changes your symptoms. The other helps build the stability and coordination needed to move well afterward.
01
Find the movement that changes the problem.
Pain often responds differently depending on the direction you move. Rather than assuming every back or neck problem needs the same exercises, NeuroActive looks for patterns: what reduces symptoms, what improves motion, and what makes things worse.
That response helps determine what to do next instead of simply adding more stretching, strengthening, or treatment.
Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy02
Build the foundation for better movement.
Once symptoms settle and movement opens up, the goal changes. Now the body needs to coordinate breathing, pressure, joint position, stabilization, and movement efficiently.
NeuroActive uses progressive developmental positions and movement challenges to turn better mechanics into better control, strength, and performance.
Dynamic Neuromuscular StabilizationWays to work with NeuroActive
Choose the level of help you need.
Start with hands-on care, a self-guided pain plan, or a structured movement program. Each path is built around the same idea: use your response to guide what comes next.
01
In-person care
Work with Dr. Bruene in Chicago
Get an individualized evaluation, hands-on care, and a treatment plan built around how your symptoms and movement respond in real time.
02
Self-guided pain plans
Start with your back or neck pain
Step-by-step guides built around the same response-based process used in clinic. Test a direction, watch what changes, and know what to try next.

Movement & performance
Build your body from the ground up
The 12-week NeuroActive Movement Program uses DNS principles to progress from breathing and stabilization through increasingly challenging developmental positions, mobility, strength, and movement control.
From patients
What it looks like when the approach works.
The goal isn't to keep you dependent on treatment. It's to help you understand the problem, change it, and know how to keep moving forward.
“
He simply cared about improving my quality of life, and he did just that.
“I never felt like he tried to oversell me on anything or keep me coming to unnecessary sessions.”
Matt A.
Patient review
“
It’s not about weekly chiropractor appointments for the rest of your life.
“The pain was nearly gone after that first session... two weeks later, the pain was gone. I now have the confidence that my body is moving the way it should.”
Claire B.
Patient review
“
I also took away an understanding of why I was getting it in the first place.
“I’m more conscious of how I lift and/or stand during my workouts... it’s practically second nature now and I notice a significant difference in how I feel.”

About Dr. Bruene
Two systems changed the way I think about pain and movement.
I'm Dr. Adam Bruene. For more than 17 years, I've worked with people trying to get out of pain, return to the things they love, and understand what their bodies actually need.
Along the way, I became certified in Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization. My DNS training included advanced clinical training within the rehabilitation system in Prague where the approach was developed.
MDT taught me to ask what movement or direction actually changes the problem. DNS taught me how to rebuild the breathing, stabilization, coordination, and movement strategies underneath it.
NeuroActive grew out of putting those ideas together: don't guess what someone needs. Test. Pay attention to the response. Then build from there.
